In 2020, the global pandemic encouraged me to embark on a new project delving into my relationship with my mother and the significance of mental well-being. This project placed a strong emphasis on the significance of self-care and nurturing, with a particular focus on women. The artwork seeks illustrates the human mind's vulnerability to the influences of love and fear, which profoundly affect mental and emotional well-being. My personal experience witnessing my mother's suffering underscored the fragility of life, much like a rose shedding its petals. To symbolize this, I incorporate roses in every image within my self-portrait photography series.
The work is called “A Part of Me”, it is an ongoing project I started at the beginning of 2019. The series explores the beauty of the female body and the importance of the menstrual cycle. Women around the world are frequently compelled to feel embarrassed during their period, and there is a sense of shame associated with sharing their menstrual experiences. My intention in this body of work is to show that menstruation is something natural - a part of the female essence as well as the cycle of life.
The series Beautiful Woman focuses on an exploration of the female body and the discomforts imposed by modern femininity. I create self-portrait photographs using materials that traditionally represent beauty, to demonstrate how women conform to societal pressures that beauty must be portrayed in specific ways, regardless of the physical pain. I strive to convey the hidden reality of the female body, the pain and the imperfections that are not openly talked about and remain invisible.
This body of work is a representation of the way I feel to be a woman and the pressure to feel feminine. The work is inspired by a recollection of memories that impacted me throughout my life and show me how to appreciate and celebrate womanhood. I want to capture the effort and time many women dedicate to this idea of the “ideal” beauty because life is heavily based on appearance. Ultimately, I want the viewers, especially women, to feel encouraged and to embrace love of their bodies.
